That was mostly because of some activism I was going to participate in that could affect the conferences, and it did end up affecting one of them even though I was not speaking.

More than that, though, my husband retired, and was planning a shoulder surgery, and I had two pregnant daughters-in-law, and I was tired of being away from home. (Here you can see some of 2018 in review, including grandchildren I didn't have the year before.)

I'm still active on facebook, I still add recordings to my site, there is a YouTube collection (of other people's interviews of me, mostly), and I'm keeping Just Add Light and Stir going. This month will see the 3000th post.

To keep up with newness and additions, please subscribe to Site News. That has a randomizer, too, so if you're in the mood to find a page you haven't seen before on my site, or to see some of my favorite photos from Just Add Light and Stir, then aboutunschooling.blogspot.com could be a good place to visit.

Thank you for your interest and kindness over the years. I also add to this collection nearly every week, as people send reviews of their own progress. http://sandradodd.com/feedback/

Sandra Dodd will be speaking at a one day event on Sunday 18th September from 9.30am to 5.30pm, followed by free pizza, and more informal chat until 6.30pm. The venue is in Long Ditton (near Surbiton & Kingston Upon Thames). There is free car parking on site and in the surrounding streets, and it is a 20 minute walk (or a short bus or taxi ride) to the nearest train station at Surbiton.

A Day with Sandra Dodd is an event for experienced unschoolers. It is designed for radical unschoolers who are already committed to the approach and who are looking to deepen their understanding and improve their practice. It is not really aimed at people who are brand new to unschooling.

Sandra says that she is getting old and cranky, and coming all the way from New Mexico to answer beginners’ questions isn’t a good use of her time. So if you haven’t progressed beyond “What?! You let them have more than an hour a day on screens?!” then go to SandraDodd.com/help and catch up.

The day will be an opportunity to hear Sandra speak in-depth about some of the more advanced/sophisticated aspects of unschooling and how it feels when solid unschooling principles underpin everything you do, so that learning, peace and joy are your everyday reality. There will also be opportunities to chat and share ideas with other experienced unschoolers.

Tickets for the day are £22.50 for adults. We also have junior tickets which are £17.50 and are available for teens/children who are interested in listening to the talks. The event isn’t suitable for children younger than about ten as there won’t be any activities for them on site. Babes in arms are welcome although we ask you to step outside if your baby is making a noise and preventing others from hearing the talks.

If you think you would like to attend please email us to let us know how long you have been unschooling, the ages of your children and what you are hoping to get out of the day. This will allow us to make sure that the content is well targeted. Please email at this address juliedaniel.email@yahoo.com. You can also email us on this address if you have other questions.
I’ve been at this homeschooling thing long enough that I don’t feel I need much advice on it, but I always like to listen in on Sandra’s talks anyway, because she’s encouraging and entertaining–and despite how long I’ve been doing this, I always learn *something*! Just saw her earlier this month, and loved hearing her thoughts on being the parent of young adults…"

That review was posted in 2012, as a comment on a blogpost in India. (Here's a link.) The blog post was one of two interviews with me.

I love finding things like that unexpectedly!
I spoke in 2014, too. (Holly helped me.)

This year I get to be there again.

I've spoken for conferences HSC has sponsored in Anaheim, Sacramento, Santa Clara, Orange County (a symposium). This one will be in San Francisco. The first year I was invited to speak was 1996, and so this will be the twentieth anniversary of the first time I spoke in California.

In 2016 I will have two sessions, and be on a panel.

Still some hazy bits, but
July 29-31 HSC conference, San Francisco

It starts on the 28th, but I'm going just Friday noonish to Sunday noonish, for two talks, and one panel.

Probably one afternoon around August 27 (give or take), small gathering, NOT big, NOT general, but just unschoolers, in Farsley, West Yorkshire. Too soon to know for sure.

Possibly one afternoon somewhere around Brighton, at the beginning of September (not known, but being considered).

September 18, Sunday afternoon, definitely, Long Ditton, Surrey (not for beginners)

In a week, I've spoken with Laurie Wolfrum at the Camden library, at the Common Ground fair, and went with Keith through Vermont (where we heard Susan Gaissert read award-winning writing, and we went to the Shelbourne Museum), and spoke to a group in New Hampshire, and drove back up to Camden.
For anyone who reads this before the weekend, one-day rates are $30 and $50 (for Friday and Saturday repsectively).
There have been other very positive comments in the past, but I didn't collect them. If anyone remembers having written one (on a blog, if you have a link; in e-mail, or in a discussion) if you can remind me where, I could add a quote here.
The symposium will be at the Ramada Albuquerque, same as the last two times. But we will have an outing at no extra cost for anyone who wants to ride the tram up the mountain and look back down!

Hema Bharadwaj, who was in Albuquerque a few years ago, will be one of our speakers in 2014. To see more about her first visit, here are some old notes and photos. Her name is pronounced like "HEYmah".
We drove for two days to get there because we live on the edge of outback queensland which is far from, well, everywhere, and was totally worth the money and time away from work. We can now carry that experience with us now. Its so much better to have had that personal contact. Highly recommend getting along to an ALLive event!

Minnesota, Maine, New Mexico. Those are the only three planned.
I'm getting old. Don't wait too long.
Fun events, rich experiences, exhausting.

Home is very comfortable and I would like to relax and eat familiar food and do as close to 'nothing' as I can for a while.

Next stop: Rochester, Minnesota! End of May, early June.
I'll stay with Schuyler's family a while, visit unschoolers in Cairns, and then do a circuit of Always Learning Live events, in Adelaide, Melbourne and the Gold Coast (back to Schuyler's for that).

We're taking registrations even at the site for those. <a HREF="http://alliveaustralia.blogspot.com

Four days after I return, I'll be in Austin with Kirby, on our way to the Texas Unschoolers Campout Conference. http://www.texasunschoolers.com/2014-conference
Links are above.
Australia (three events) in March, a visit with Schuyler and her family, and meeting unschoolers I've known on discussions for years.

Texas in April, with my oldest, Kirby and maybe his roomie/partner/girlfriend will get to meet unschoolers and hear more about it; he's hoping.

May/early June, Rochester Minnesota with Alex Polikowsky, and Pam Laricchia will be there.

End of July, early August, the HSC conference in a new city. After years of Sacramento, the converence is moving to Santa Clara, in the soutern Bay area, silicon valley.

In September, Keith and I are going to spend a week and a half in Maine with Laurie Wolfrun, and there will be several activities related to that, including a side trip to New Hamshire for a potluck and discussion.

In December, Keith and I will host another Albuquerque Always Learning Live event at the same wonderful Radisson hotel at I-40 and Eubank in Albuquerque. 2014's theme is "Top of the Mountain."
This makes it a busy year. I hope to be home most of the summer to work on my yard, and to keep up my website, discussions, and Just Add Light and Stir, my favorite project.

For those who can't attend any of these 2014 events, but who are glad for the advances in unschooling that such gatherings invariably bring to families even beyond those who attend, financial assistance would be accepted! Either register for an event even if you don't think you'll make it, or perhaps donate to my PayPal account, where site fees, transportation, name tags and printing are handled.

In two weeks (Septembers 27), hotel costs should go back to full rate, so if you're thinking of attending, reserve a room while you ponder.
This one is unlike anything before. (Well, a little like the Albuquerque ALLive events, but in California! With nicer rooms!)
